A Special Gathering for Salt and Light

On Thursday, February 13, a special gathering took place with parents/grandparents and teens as we welcomed Annie Ovanessian, Prelacy Director of the Salt & Light program, back to Providence to provide an overview of the mission of this inspiring program.  After prayer and a delicious meal, Annie provided a brief overview of the program, and the facilitators offered a review of the program which started in Sts. Vartanantz Church in 2018. Annie then met with the adults as the facilitators met with the teens for games/activities. Then we switched audiences and this allowed Annie and the facilitators to meet with each group and answer any questions or concerns. The adults were impressed with Annie’s passion and dedication and all the facets of the youth ministry; faith, fun, fellowship and service.
Salt and Light offers our teens an opportunity to come together with other teens to forge new and to strengthen existing relationships with one another, and at the same time with the dedicated adult mentors from our community.  We are blessed to have Jayne Zobian, Shake Kizirian, Armand Kibarian, and Artur Arslanyan as mentors who care so much for our teens.  In a relaxed atmosphere, they talk about their faith, challenges that they face in their lives, and issues that are on their minds.  Our goal is to support them during this critical time in their lives with a safe place to talk as they come to better understand our faith and how it can be a guide for all our decisions and in all the challenges that we face.  It is our mission to mentor our teens as they grow stronger and more confident through applying their faith increasingly in their daily lives.
Salt & Light offers our teens a balance of growing in faith while having fun through social events and doing community service projects.  Each gathering begins with sharing dinner over casual conversation with our mentors and Der Hayr.  The teens always have the opportunity to ask questions of Der Hayr during dinner or anonymously – this always leads to more conversation!
Our first session is Monday, March 10th, at 6:00 p.m.  We would love to have your teen join us. Please contact Jayne Zobian for more information at 401-323-5163.
